Join us for an end of year celebratory Kirtan co-led by Ayesha Ali, Derek Elliott, Francesca Meluzzi and a guest singer. This event is in aid of the The Prison Phoenix Trust, a charity bringing yoga into prisons. All proceeds of the evening will go to the charity and you will have the option to donate either £5, £10 or £15 at checkout.
Unless you have taken part in a Kirtan session in the past, you may well not know what Kirtan is. It’s a call and response musical meditation led by a Kirtan singer who usually also plays the harmonium. There may be other musicians. It’s fully participatory. The Kirtan singer will sing phrases which are repeated by the community. The ‘phrases’ are the pure sound vibrations of Sanskrit chants and mantras originally developed by the ‘bhakti’ culture of the sub-continent. This is a heart centred tradition which believes in the compelling draw of Universal Beauty, which is accessible to all and that deep immersion in the resonance of chanting is a way of connecting with its sweetness.
If you’d like to stay on for a bite to eat and a cup of tea after the event, we will provide a warm vegetarian dish - feel free to bring something small and sweet to share for afterwards.
Cost: £5-15 Book here (non refundable after booking, being a charity event)
